Oil hovering around $78 a barrel, a new natural gas agreement for independent schools in Georgia, and a Spanish solar glass manufacturer to build their US headquarters in Arizona.

Oil is hovering around $78 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange today due to a higher concern about the consumers ability to handle increasing energy costs in what’s still being considered a stagnant economy. According to AAA, Wright Express and Oil Price Information Service, today’s national average for a gallon of unleaded gasoline is at $2.780, a 3.3 cent increase from more than a week ago and 13.7 cents higher than this time last year. The Energy Information Administration has also announced that last week’s inventory of crude increased 3.5 million barrels to a total of 173.1 million barrels.

Georgia Natural Gas has announced a new natural gas supply agreement with Mid-South Independent School Business Officers (MISBO) in Georgia for 75 private schools. The MISBO is conglomeration of private schools that handle purchasing and professional development for more than 285 schools with more than 178,000 students. Georgia Natural Gas’s parent company SouthStar Energy Services, is a retail natural gas marketing company that offers customers service in seven states.

Spanish based Rioglass Solar has announced that they will be building a $50 million U.S. headquarters in Arizona. The company, which manufacturers the glass used in commercial solar power systems has received $10.6 in federal tax credits to build a 130,000-square-foot facility in the Phoenix suburb of Surprise. Having the headquarters in Surprise will create 100 jobs and open up the opportunity to distribute their solar glass to the Solana Generation Station that’s located nearby.
