New York Jets Add Solar Power To Their Training Facility
TweetA new patent on multifunctional smart sensors, could revolutionize the smart grid, what an electric delivery company is doing to entice Arkansas businesses to become more energy efficient and the New York Jets install solar panels on their training facility.
Researchers from North Carolina State University have patented technology that enables the development of devices that are in need of high voltage power and current. The new technology is seen a revolutionary step towards developing smart-grid technology. The NC State research team, which is headed by Dr. Jay Narayan, has found a way to integrate gallium nitride (GaN) sensors and devices directly into silicon-based computer chips. According to Narayan the gallium nitride can “handle more power than conventional transistors. And it can do so faster, because it can be made into single crystals that are integrated into a silicon chip – so electrons can move more quickly,” A US-company is already in talks about licensing the technology.
CenterPoint Energy is helping the Arkansas’s commercial sector become more energy efficient. The electric delivery provider is rolling out new rebates and incentives for natural gas assessments, efficient water and space heating, and food service equipment. Commercial customers can take advantage of a $200 natural gas audit, up to $300 in rebates for upgrades to their furnace or space or water heating systems and up to $1,000 for efficient food service equipment. Please visit CenterPointEnergy.com/arkansasrebates if you are interested in learning more about the new programs.
The New York Jets teamed up with Chinese conglomerate Yingli Green Energy Holding Limited to construct a solar power center at their training center in Florham Park, NJ. The project aims to generate 750,000 kilowatt-hours of energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions 540 metric tons each year. Not only will this benefit the community, it will be the equivalent of taking 100 cars of the road, the Jets will save thousands of dollars on their energy bills.
