Who’s adding wind power to the roofs of New York

Boreal Renewable Energy Development is developing wind power in New York through rooftop turbine installations. The company is using Second Wind’s measurement technology to collect and analyze data for energy production in Manhattan. The system is going to be installed atop a medical center in NewYork. The project is expected to be a symbolic addition to New York’s famous skyline.

Which Ice Tea Maker Is Adding Wind To The Mix

Turkey Hill Dairy, the country’s top-seller of refrigerated ice tea, is going green. A quarter of the company’s energy needs will come from a new wind turbine project. The turbines will generate thepower to produce six million gallons of ice cream and 15 million gallons of iced tea annually. The windturbine project is just one of the Dairy’s green initiatives. The company is also using steam power, reducing packaging material and recycling water usage.

A New Study Finds New Uses For The Toxic Byproduct Fly Ash

Fly ash, a toxic byproduct of coal power plants, can now be used to create an alternative material in manufacturing cars. When the fly ash is converted into the molten metals, such as aluminum to be usedin cars, it is no longer toxic. This new material is also lighter than the current material used in cars andcan absorb more energy than what is traditionally used. This can decrease fuel consumption by up tofive percent. The research was announced by Nikhil Gupta, an associate professor of mechanical andaerospace engineering at Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
