TweetPattern Energy secures financing for 75-MW Puerto Rico wind project
Pattern Energy Group LP has completed financing for 75-MW Finca de Viento Santa Isabel wind project in Puerto Rico. Siemens Financial Services provided the construction financing for the wind project, which is located in the southern municipality of Santa Isabel.
Construction is set to begin in October 2011, with completion is expected in September 2012. The project will use new Siemens SWT-2.3-108 turbines. Pattern Energy Group has entered into a 20-year power purchase and operating agreement with the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority for all of the wind energy generated from the project.
Inovateus Solar, GE Energy team up to build scalable solar carport charging stations
Inovateus Solar LLC has partnered with GE Energy Industrial Solutions to manufacturer original equipment for GE solar carport charging stations. The two companies evolved into the new partnership through the highly successful collaboration on an installation of a 100-kW solar carport in Plainville, Conn., earlier this year. Inovateus will include GE EverGold Solar combiner boxes, GE DuraStation and WattStation electric vehicle charging stations, and traditional GE electrical distribution panels and switches including a new line of solar safety switches, also known as photovoltaic disconnects.
Pennsylvania EDA grants $3.7M in funding for 13 clean energy projects
The Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority awarded $3.7 million in funding to 13 projects across the state for development and implementation of clean energy. Each grant recipient will provide matching funds of various amounts. EDA provides funding for energy projects across the commonwealth through grants, loans and loan guarantees. Projects in Allegheny County may be funded using a portion of a settlement reached between Duquesne Light and the Pennsylvania Utility Commission.
“These innovative projects now have the funding to be implemented,” DEP Secretary Mike Krancer said. “They will bring measurable energy efficiency and decreased air emissions; and some, like Pittsburgh’s natural gas-powered waste-hauling trucks, will serve as a model for other cities and states looking to implement cleaner-burning fuels.”
SunPower to build 5-MW solar farm in Kalaeloa
SunPower Corp. will design, build and operate a 5-MW solar photovoltaic farm in Kalaeloa in West Oahu. The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission has approved a contract for SunPower to sell energy to Hawaiian Electric Co. from the solar farm. Subject to receipt of applicable permits, SunPower plans to begin construction this year and complete the solar farm within five months.
SunPower will install high-efficiency solar panels on a SunPower T0 Tracker system, which moves the solar panels to follow the sun during the day. According to SunPower this increases sunlight capture by up to 25% over fixed-tilt systems, while significantly reducing land requirements.
