China Surpasses U.S. As The Best Environment For Renewable Energy Opportunities
Which country has the best environment for renewable energy projects, more schools implementing energy efficiency projects and a new green sponsor of the San Francisco Giants.
According to a recently released report by Ernst & Young titled, Renewable Energy country Attractiveness: Indices, China is viewed as the best opportunity for investing in renewable energy projects. Being graded at the top of the attractiveness Indices table puts China alone at the top of the list for the first time. The grade for the United States was lowered because of the failure to pass a federal Renewable Energy Standard, which would have required all states to generate a percentage of their power from renewable energy sources.
Pepco Energy Services has been selected to begin retrofitting C.D. Hylton Seniro High School with energy efficient improvements. The project will require Pepco to upgrade lighting, optimize energy management controls, replace old boilers and chillers with new units and install a 16 KW solar panel system. The project is expected to save the school more than $2.6 million during the 10-year shared-savings plan and lower energy and water costs by more than 27%.
Canadian Solar Inc. one of the world’s largest solar companies, has become a new sponsor of Major League Baseball’s San Francisco Giants. The San Francisco Giants stadium, AT&T Park, is the first Major League ballpark to be awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council a certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Existing Buildings. The sponsorship kicks off by with the “Score with Canadian Solar” contest which offers Giants fans the opportunity to win free Giants tickets, autographed apparel and free solar installation quotes from Canadian Solar.
