EIA expects 53% boost in global energy use by 2035
Driven by strong demand from developing nations like India and China, global energy use is likely to increase 53% by 2035, CNNMoney reported, citing a report by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
According to EIA, fossil fuels will continue to be the dominant fuel choice in 2035, with renewable contributing just 14% to the world’s overall energy consumption. Most future renewable energy supply will continue to come from wind and hydropower, according to the report.
The agency, however, does not expect solar power to become a significant energy source by 2035.
Boston-Power secures $125 million in new financing
Boston-Power Inc., the rapidly growing provider of next-generation lithium-ion battery cells, modules and systems, has secured $125 million in new funding from a combination of private equity investment and support from China.
The company will use the growth capital and Chinese government incentives to scale manufacturing, research and development and business development activities in China for the company’s award-winning energy storage technology and products.
In addition, Boston-Power will establish a world-class R&D and EV battery engineering facility in China. Also, the company will build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in China that will be capable of producing 400 MWh of lithium-ion battery cells annually by the end of 2012.
