PSE&G “Healthcare Hero” in New Jersey Due to Hospital Energy Efficiency Program
PSE&G was recognized as an NJBIZ “Healthcare Hero” because of its innovative energy efficiency program for hospitals. The award is given to individuals and organizations that are making a significant impact on the quality of health care in New Jersey. PSE&G’s program included the provision of a $129 million hospital energy efficiency initiative for improvements. This program is unique among the U.S. states because it is the only program in which the utility totally covers all the upfront capital costs for the energy efficiency improvements.
MCOE’s Solar and Energy Efficiency Project Unveiled
The Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) has unveiled its 630-kilowatt solar power project at the MCOE headquarters in Blanco Circle, Salinas, California. According to Dr. Nancy Kotowski, Monterey County Superintendent of Schools, “We’re harnessing the sun to support our schools. This project protects taxpayer dollars and allows us to maximize our investment in the future of the students we serve.” The project received a $500,000 solar rebate from PG&E as well as a federal grant of $881,000.
CSU and Xcel Energy Partners To Offer Wind Power
Starting January 1, 2013, Xcel Energy will be providing the Colorado Springs Utilities 108,000-megawatt of wind power. The contract is for 2 years. While it will still take months for this agreement to take effect, almost all of the wind power is already spoken for. Military bases and universities will take 102,730-megawatt-hours while Green Power customers will take 1,578-megawatt-hours. That leaves only 3,800-megawatt hours up for grabs.
First Solar To Provide Solar Modules in Los Angeles Solar Plant
First Solar Inc. has reached a deal with the Los Angeles County officials to install the solar modules in the Solar Ranch One power plant in northern Los Angeles County. The 230-megawatt power plant, when completed, can generate enough electricity to power 75,000 homes. It is expected to be completed by 2013. With the agreement in place, First Solar stock rose to about 9.2 percent to $15.88 a share.
Suzlon To Build Factory in Brazil
As a response to Brazil’s demand that wind manufacturers should be getting 40 percent of their components in the country, Suzlon Energy Ltd., will be building a components factory in Brazil. The country’s state development bank, BNDES, has suspended all loans to developers buying the machines from foreign companies. Based on 2011 data by the Global Wind Energy Council, Brazil was the fastest-growing major wind market.
