Asia Report: South Korean Solar Companies Make Strong Push Into U.S. Market

The U.S. solar market is now the target of two South Korean corporations: Nexelon and Hanwha Solar. Nexelon serves major solar cell and module manufacturers in Korea, Europe, Taiwan, China and U.S. It has an annual production capacity of 1.7 gigawatts, recently opened its U.S. headquarters and, in association with San Antonio municipal utility CPS Energy, will bring 400 megawatts of solar power to San Antonio, Texas. The project also includes the construction of a 200 MW manufacturing facility. Hanwha Solar a global top class renewable energy company, recently started a U.S.-based division that will finance and build solar projects in the United States.

California’s Geothermal Market In Flux

The Geothermal Industry has a lot of potential for development but it has not been fully explored and it has many challenges ahead to face, primary because is not well known among policy makers and the public. The largest geothermal field in the world is located in the Mayacamas Mountains of northern California with a size of about 45 square miles. In 2010, geothermal energy provided 42% of the state’s 2,600 MW of commercial renewable electricity which is significant because California has more geothermal installed capacity than any other state. To understand more about geothermal resources and its potential  UC Davis, University of Nevada Reno, and Stanford, coupled with geothermal development in Nevada and California are working on a program focused on exploration, reservoir management and extraction, resource identification, and systems processes.

Progress Energy Florida Selects 10 Public Schools Serving as Emergency Shelters to Receive Free Solar Installations and Battery Backup Systems August 15, 2012

10 public schools in Florida will receive a 10-kilowatt (kW)  free solar installation with battery backup, as part of the SunSense Schools program  implemented by Progress Energy Florida, a subsidiary of Duke Energy. The program will run until 2014 and was created to help public schools with as emergency shelters.

New Georgia Power initiative give customers one-stop source for solar information

Georgia Power, one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity has announced the release of a new solar energy education program which will consist of a new web site where customers can access information about solar potential. The company, which serves 2.4 million customers across 155 counties, will present on topics focusing on how solar works, green energy programs, educational resources, tools and information from solar installers, next steps to add solar to your home or business, and expertise assistance.
