Sunpreme closes $50 million financing for solar project
Sunpreme, a global manufacturer of low-cost, highly scalable SmartSilicon solar cells, has closed more than $50 million in financing led by the International Finance Corp., joining existing investors Capricorn Investment Group and China Environment Fund III, LP, managed by Tsing Capital.
The capital infusion is being used to construct a state-of-the-art facility in Jiaxing, China, which will allow Sunpreme to continue to expand production of its SmartSilicon solar cells by year end.
Sunpreme’s SmartSilicon is a disruptive solar cell technology that delivers high-efficiency solar photovoltaic panels at lower costs. Using Sunpreme’s patented technology on largely industry standard production equipment, the company’s cost-effective manufacturing process provides utility-scale and distributed power generation customers with a reliable, high-performance and affordable solar solution.
BrightSource Energy files application for certification for Rio Mesa solar facility
BrightSource Energy Inc. has filed an application for certification with the California Energy Commission to develop three 250 MW solar power plants in Riverside County, Calif.
The solar plants, which will be located primarily on land owned by the Metropolitan Water District, will collectively generate enough electricity to power more than 300,000 homes.
World Energy Solutions acquires energy efficiency firm
World Energy Solutions Inc., an energy management services firm, has acquired Northeast Energy Solutions LLC, a privately-held energy efficiency company. The acquisition provides World Energy an immediate foothold in the New England market, where utility incentives are available for commercial and industrial energy efficiency projects.
The move accelerates the growth of World Energy’s energy efficiency practice. Northeast Energy Solutions has flourished as a regional provider of energy efficiency services, completing numerous energy efficient HVAC, refrigeration controls and other mechanical system upgrades for its commercial, industrial and institutional customers.
