New electric cars might miss MPG targets
General Motors is stepping up to the base, as consumers demand more eco-friendly cars and more miles per gallon. The new Chevrolet Volt, planned to release in 2011 and already in display at several dealerships, initially boasted an efficiency of 230 miles per gallon (mpg). Many were reluctant to accept such a claim, including competing electric car manufacturers at Nissan. The company announced the Nissan Leaf, another electric car, can achieve up to 37 mpg.
