Verizon Allots $40 Million to Its Triple Solar Energy Capacity
Verizon Communications Inc., the biggest U.S. wireless carrier, is investing almost $40 million to triple its solar power capacity this year. Eight Verizon sites across the country will benefit from a total of 10.2 MW of solar installations by SunPower Corp. Last year, Verizon invested $100 million for about 5 MW of solar capacity and 10 MW of fuel cells that were installed in half-a-dozen sites. The new capacity will give the New York-based company the most solar-generating capacity of any U.S. telecommunications company.
India Pledges to Acquire Local Solar Content as Dumping Deadline Passes
Indian Power Minister Piyush Goyal asked domestic solar equipment manufacturers to start idled capacities, promising that the government would ensure buyers for their products. The assurance came as India failed to publicly announce dumping duties by an Aug.22 deadline on imports coming from Asia and the United States. The duties threatened to hamper solar projects in the region as well as escalate a protectionist trade war already under way between the U.S., Europe and China.
